All Around the World...

So, I was checking out my snobby news, like I do every day (and, yes, I read it in my mind with a British accent), and they had this picture as one of their "day in pictures."

The caption read "Following the death of 97-year-old Mormon Church leader Gordon Hinckley, a student pays his respects before a makeshift memorial at a Utah university."

It's not amazing to me how many lives President Hinckley touched. I only wish more of our brothers and sisters in this world realized his significance.

Amen - I was royally bummed for the first 5 minutes or so after I heard too but when I realized that he was back with his wife and the homecomming he must have received I was instantly comforted. Talk about the party of the year - and we're in good hands down here I think.

It's been a really interesting morning as I've been reading news reports and visiting Mormon blogs.

I've been impressed by just how many of our fellow saints felt the same way that I do/did, namely, that he was my prophet. Mine. He spoke to me. He loved me.

What a marvelous man to be able to be an individual prophet to so many.

I agree with you when you said he was my prophet. I grew up with him being the prophet. I was sad when I heard the news last night, I still am. On the other hand I haven't been able to cry like I thought I would. I think this is because I am so excited that he is back with the love of his life. That had to be the best reunion ever! It'll be interesting to see the changes that take place in the next few weeks.

It's kinda funny...I posted my blog about GHB and then about half of the other blogs I read about him had the exact same comment. I'm going to miss him so much. He's one of my greatest heroes.

I could be incorrect and it might just be because President Hinkley was the only prophet I've known as an adult, but it seemed to me like he did more for getting the church in a good public eye than has been done in a long time. All of the interviews and shows he's done, questions he's answered, the relationship that he's built with powerful people, it's all just amazing. I think he did so much for making the church less "separated" from the rest of the world, and drawing attention to how involved we really are.
