Friday Fluff*

Okay, so as I mentioned earlier, I’ve been working on what has now become a treatise on my views of women and the church in light of Sister Beck’s talk in General Conference.

Really, my post is out of control and will probably end up being 3 to 4 entries. I’m still tweaking it so that people have no misunderstandings about what I’m saying.

That will be coming your way starting next week.

But, to get you in the mood for lady issues, here’s some female related fluff*…

First, what do you see in this stereogram? Let me know in comments if you want. (I know, I hate these things too, but it relates to the topic.)

Second, How much of a feminist are you? Take this quiz to find out. (Usually I hate quizzes because they are inaccurate and/or stupid, but this one is useful just because it will get you thinking.)(Oh, and if you're wondering, I was 84% feminist.) (And for the sake of argument, let's just use a simple definition of feminist such as "one who supports equality between men and women" instead of the craziness the word is normally associated with now.)

*Now that I'm reading this post, it's not really that fluffy. Oh well. Have a great weekend!

I love Friday Fluff! Okay so after I stared at the stereogram for a while I saw a figure of a woman. She appears to be nude, but that could just be my eyes playing tricks on me. I took the quiz and found out that I am 48% feminist which means I'm neither hot or cold, I'm luke warm.

OH, I hate stereograms! I've never been able to see the picture on any of them and it's very frustrating. And I've done all the tips that people have given me: relax your eyes, cross your eyes, strain your eyes, get closer, step back, look away and then look back at it. It never works. I'm a failure!

I'm also a feminist. 80%. Although I wish I could have put comments next to my answers. For instance, I do believe that a women should absolutely have the choice to be whatever she wants to be, but I also believe that if she makes the choice to have children she needs to actually be with those children instead of having a demanding job that takes her away from them for hours and hours every day.

Yay, Andrea! You saw her! It took me awhile to focus my eyes.

(And by the time I went through a couple of them, I had serious eye strain and felt I was coming down with the vapors and wanted to lie down.)

Rachel, I too wanted to add comments next to my answers. Like the one about having the same sexual freedom as men.

I suppose I agree, but I wanted to say that everyone should get a grip and control their sexualness, so just because a lot of men are in the gutter, doesn't mean we should all join them.

I'm 65% femininst. I think its because I do believe there are "man jobs" but only as "we could do them but they should do them" Like a fireman. If I'm trapped in a burning building and can't walk I want a big 350 lb bunch of rescuing muscle to come through that door - not some 140 lb woman with annonying politics. I'm sure I'd get out either way but thats just my preferance.

and I saw the lady too but she seems to be without feet and somewhat pregnant... Or that could just be me.

I saw the woman too - but her body was sort of weird shaped. I was 54% feminist. I needed comments too...like the one about a woman having the right to choose who she wants to marry and have a family with. I would have strongly agreed with that one until they put in the part about "including another woman".

And I agree with the thing about certain jobs just being more suited to men. The fireman thing is a good example...so is it with some other types of physical jobs. Not that a woman shouldn't have the opportunity to do those things, but physical testing standards should not be lowered just to accommodate women.

OK, I better stop now. I get a little fired up on these topics.

Liz and Laura, I agree with you about the job thing.

Women shouldn't be denied, but if they can't hack it at the same standards as men, then they should look for another line of work.

I see a Prego lady!!! (OK...now I'll go back and finish reading...i didnt want anything to change my view.) :-) ...I also saw a little batman head down in the corner...

ok, so I am with Andrea at 48%. Some (aka most) of the questions were fairly loaded--expecially the "including other women" one. And the one about depending on men. I think it would be nice to beable to depend on some one else, but I dont think it is necessary, even though the wording in the question kinda implied that.

It's so fascinating to see where everyone lands on the quiz. I'd love to talk to you all about it.

I know the majority of our
get-togethers are usually just for fun (as they should be, we all need to laugh and relax), but I'd love to get all of your perspectives on more meaty things sometimes.

When I was over at Rachel's last night, and we (Rachel, Cynda, and I) were talking a little about all this, I realized that I really have no one to talk to about a lot of the stuff that I think about.

So, I'm really grateful for this blog, so I can put it all out there. But, I realized last night, that I sensor myself A LOT in regards to my post topics because I don't want to disappoint.

Needless to say, all these thoughts kept me up most the night.

Sigh.

65% feminist.
I was so ready to check yes for the question about men's jobs. I was thinking 'hm, taking out the trash, mowing the lawn, shoveling the sidewalk. absolutely.' Then I finished the question. :)
I am with Rachel though with the stereogram. I had no idea!!! I just kept thinking 'I don't think they work on the computer screen.' I just see some little sideways liney things on the right half of the paper. Even after being told that it is a woman, I can't spot her. Might as well be the Taj Mahal.

I just did this again, and now I see two women...standing really close together - maybe even conjoined twins!

Heather said...

I saw the twins the second time I looked at it too! Only it looked like there was something else in the middle of them...Like maybe an alien jumping out of the screen to take over the world. ...or a feminist coming to attack me for my lack of feminism...

Morning Mz. Wolfe:) Your dad is awesome by the way.

It turns out I'm 77% feminist. I never really connected basic human rights to "feminism" before, most of those issues seem pretty universal to me.

I'm seeing a floating figure with 3-D torso, and she follows me when I move.
