I always come across great quotes. You too?
And I always try to memorize them as an attempt to make them a part of my psyche.
Sadly, it rarely works.
So, I've decided to start a new tradition to help myself think, ponder, and realize the "wonder" of words of wisdom.
Every Wednesday I'm going to post a quote and ask a question (or two, or ten—you know me) about it to make you and I evaluate our lives and our minds.
You can make a comment, or not. Either way, my goal is to get us thinking.
Here’s the one for today:
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller
I’m sure we’ve all heard this quote before. It’s one of my favorites. And for YEARS I misinterpreted it. I thought that because my life wasn’t a “daring adventure” it was “nothing.”
But, over the years, I’ve come to understand what she was saying. Life IS a daring adventure, but only if you see it that way. You don’t have to travel to the Amazon, or go back-packing through Europe, or scale Mount Everest to have a life of adventure!
No, what she means is that every day is a new opportunity within yourself to be daring. What are you afraid of? Face it! What are you putting off? Do it! What are you avoiding? Run towards it!
Make this life work for you! Let you change your life!
What can you do today to see the adventure in your own little world?

You're so inspiring! That quote sort of reminds me of how people reacted to my decision to move to Texas. Everyone seemed to think it was such a big exciting adventure...and to me it was just what I had to do to keep my job. It did turn out to be an adventure - and certainly for some reasons that I never expected. I think part of seeing the adventure in my own little world is not only recognizing what's amazing about it, but also like you said, doing the things you've always wanted to do or are afraid of. For me it was the tap dancing class. I've been wanting to do it for years! Thanks again Amanda! We need another update on how class is going!
Sigh... I can shatter my pants. Please see tomorrow's blog for an explanation. However, one of my favorite things about y'alls blogs that I've tried to do is see the "events" in the every day. Little things that I never even thought about are now funny or thought-provoking stories. I'm diggin it. Yay for daily adventures!
This may be a bit on the "negative reinforcement" side of the line but I imagine how worse things could be and that helps me see the wonder in today and what I've got.
"Well I could have been a misplaced and oppressed Chinese youth during Reeducation and be attacked by leeches in the rice fields all day". That keeps me grateful and wondering about everything and that is what makes up an adventure for me, learning something new, even if its about myself. I heard a spiffy quote today too "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered."
- GK Chesterton
LOVE that quote, Liz. So true! I'm adding it to my list...
Or, as I like to put it "Bad things don't happen - only good stories."
Oh, to make my life a daring adventure, I quit my job. I'm thinking of buying an Indiana Jones hat.
